The situation

Volmar Construction is a general contractor that builds for federal, state, and municipal government agencies. That work sets a high security bar, and it means sensitive information moves in and out of the company every day.

The infrastructure carrying that information had fallen behind. Volmar ran its IT in house, the network was outdated, and attackers found it. The company took a number of attacks against both its email server and its network server.

Peter Volandes had already identified the gap. Then one incident forced the decision.

Our network infrastructure here at Volmar was outdated. We had a number of attacks on both our email server and our network server.

Why they chose WheelHouse IT

Volmar evaluated multiple providers. What decided it was which provider understood the nature of Volmar’s business and what its network has to support.

Volmar needed a plan that met the security requirement without interrupting active work.

We decided to go with WheelHouse IT because we believe that they understood the nature of our business and the needs of our business better than their competitors.

What WheelHouse IT did

Peter describes the engagement in four terms. The infrastructure was upgraded for security and connectivity. The solution was efficient. It was cost-effective. It was executed with minimal disruption.

  • Network infrastructure upgraded Addressed both problems Peter names, security and connectivity.
  • Email server and network server Both had been attacked. Both were in scope.
  • Cost-effective scope Sized to the risk and the budget.
  • Minimal disruption The work was executed without interrupting Volmar’s operations.
WheelHouse IT crafted a solution that was efficient, cost-effective, and able to be executed with minimal disruption to our business.

The results

Peter names three changes after two years of working together.

  • Sensitive information moves securely Peter describes a much more seamless transmission of secure information.
  • One trusted source for IT Volmar has a provider it trusts and a place to go with questions, instead of managing technology decisions alone.
  • Support after the project, not just during it The post-implementation response is what Peter singles out.
Some of the main results that I’ve seen from working with WheelHouse IT over the last two years is a much more seamless transmission of secure information. I know that I have a trusted IT provider and I know that I have a source of information to the extent that I have questions.

In their words

In short, I know that WheelHouse IT has my back.

I would absolutely recommend WheelHouse IT.

WheelHouse IT understood Volmar's business and its infrastructure and software needs incredibly well, and their post-engagement response and support have been exemplary.

Are you bidding government work on infrastructure you no longer trust?

Government and municipal contracts raise the security bar on every document you send. If your network and email were built for a smaller, simpler version of your business, the gap is worth measuring before someone else finds it.
